Clinical Hypnotherapy
What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a valuable therapy with which to release past trauma and de-condition established habits. Even though our personal unconscious only ever seeks to promote our well being, it can often be the seat of faulty learning from our childhood, leading to low self esteem, under achievement and sometimes worse. Often it attempts to protect us by raising our fears and anxieties to phobic levels to keep us from a particular activity or stimulus it sees as dangerous. Utilising hypnosis in therapy often facilitates an unconscious relearning process.
A hypnotic state occurs normally in everyone when certain physiological and psychological conditions are met and, with the assistance of a skilled hypnotherapist, it's possible to use this state to make deep and lasting changes to thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
What is Clinical Hypnotherapy used for?
The brain rules and controls each and every cell in the human body. However, its commands come from your subconscious mind. Every activity, consciously intended or not, is the direct response from the subconscious mind. With this in mind, it becomes clear that the benefits of hypnotherapy, working directly with the subconscious mind, are many. With hypnotherapy, the changes you can make are truly amazing.
Some of the issues which can be addressed through hypnotherapy:
• Anxiety • Anorexia • Back Pain • Blushing • Bruxism (teeth grinding at night) • Bulemia • Confidence/self esteem • Depression • Exam nerves • Family problems • Guilt • Headaches and Migraines • Hypertension • Hysterical symptoms • Low or high blood preasure • Motivation problems • Nervousness • Pain control • Panic attacks • Phobias • Post Traumatic Stress • Public Speaking • Relationship problems • Self esteem • Shyness • Sleep disorders • Slimming • Smoking Cessation • Social Phobia • Stress • Timidity • Trauma • Travel Fears • Worry • Weight Issues (obesity/overeating/overweight)
What happens in a Clinical Hypnotherapy treatment?
You will have a consultation before the session begins in which your issues will be discussed in depth. When you are ready, you will be invited to relax in a reclining chair and you will be guided through some relaxation techniques and some suggestions for change which you have made during the consultation will be read back to you. You are fully in control when under hypnosis and don't have to take on the suggestions if you don't want to. If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state. Hypnosis doesn't work if you don't want to be hypnotised. The average person 'hypnotises' themselves every day in the form of daydreaming and having a hypnotherapy session is very similar to daydreaming.
I also use a variety of techniques in hypnotherapy to help change behaviour and attitudes as required. These may include Emotrance, Past Life Regression, Time Line Therapy, E.M.D.R., and E.F.T.
You shouldn't use hypnotherapy if you suffer from psychosis or have a personality disorder, as it could make these conditions worse.
How many treatments?
A treatment plan will be discussed with you during the initial consultation. Generally, there is no easy answer to this question. Some issues can be cleared up in one session while others may take five or six sessions. It is important to recognise that with hypnotherapy, the success of a session depends very much on the client and how much time and effort they are willing to put in to resolving their issues. A hypnotherapist can guide and make suggestions, but the real change comes from within the client.
